Battle Of Bushy Run Pennsylvania

Newsgroups are a great way to get information about metal detecting and treasure hunting related topics
from other treasure hunters.
Almost any topic has a related newsgroup. You will be amazed at the number of newgroups, I believe that
there are over 10,000!! But not a lot of treasure hunters use them, because they don't know they exist.
Try using the newsgroups and see what you can find.

Some possible uses include:

ID a find you made (what is it?)
Sell a find you made.
Get help on buying a new metal detector.
Get help with a detector problem.
Look for a companion for a hunt

Some sample newsgroups th'ers may be interested in include:

alt.treasure.hunting
rec.collecting.coins
rec.antiques
alt.genealogy
alt.satellite.gps

Click the above links to open your newsgroup reader and look into
the exciting world of newsgroups.

Using Google Groups as a Newsgroup Search Aid

What is Google Groups?

Basically, it is a search engine for newsgroups. You can enter keywords and search every newsgroup for a word or phrase. You can limit your search to specific forums or subjects, such as only forums that relate to coins or genealogy or treasure hunting. But many times there are related newsgroup posts on your topic in other forums.
This way you can look in all newsgroups.

Let's try an example. Goto http://groups.google.com/

Enter map pennsylvania topo in the "keywords" field and
press the search button. A page of 28 matches is returned.
Note some of the forums which contain our keywords:

sci.geo.satellite-nav
sci.geo.geology
rec.bicycles.misc
misc.transport.road
rec.hunting
I didn't know some these of these topics had a forum!

Enter railroad pennsylvania town in the keyword field.

See the power of newsgroups! Just another research tool available
to you on the internet. Try your own keywords and see what kind of
results you get.
