Prayer & Bible Study

FPCE Prayer Life

Bible Study

"We always pray for you."
                               - I Thessalonians 1:11

First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood maintains an active prayer life in many ways.

Circles
The Presbyterian Women's small groups, or "circles," meet monthly for fellowship and prayer together.

The Prayer Calling Chain
A long-standing tradition at Edgewood is the Prayer Calling Chain.  There are currently
approximately 20 members and friends of the church who join in intentional prayer as information comes in to the church.  When a prayer request is received, the prayer coordinator prays, then calls the next few names on the chain.  Those people pray and relay the request to the next name, etc.  Within a few hours, over 20 people have prayed for someone who needs God's care now.  The PCC will continue to "pray without ceasing."  Join us in praying for strength, wisdom, guidance and healing.

Weekly, updated prayer requests are printed in the Sunday bulletin.  There is a monthly list posted in the church newsletter.  Emails are also sent to make sure those unable to be reached by phone get the updated information.

To submit or update prayer requests, contact:

Bible Study at FPCE

Bible study at First Presbyterian Church of Edgewood manifests itself in several forms.   Sunday mornings, the Adult Sunday School class uses a Bible Study setting to discuss many issues, from social and cultural to spiritual and Biblical.

Seasonally, FPCE holds regular Bible Studies during the Advent and Lenten weeks, preparing members for Christmas and Easter.

Daytime Prayer Group

The daytime group devoted to spiritual growth and the practice of prayer began in the Summer of 2007 and continues all through the year. We gather on Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. here at the church. Each session lasts about an hour. Remember that perhaps no activity is more vital to our spiritual wellbeing and formation than prayer. Our Reformed tradition says that prayer “is at the heart of Christian worship. In prayer, through the Holy Spirit, people seek after and are found by the one true God who has been revealed in Jesus Christ. They listen and wait upon God, call God by name, remember God’s gracious acts, and offer themselves to God.”
