The American Memory Collection from the Library of Congress is yet another online resouce. It contains searchable topics such as: Manuscripts ,Printed Texts ,Maps ,Motion Pictures, Photos & Prints and Sound Recordings. The Library of Congress is huge and only some of it's vast catalog is now online. This is a site where you will want to check back at a later date to see if what you are looking for is now online.
The collections you will most likely be interested in will be the History and Geography collections.

Click here for American Memory: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/amhome.html

On this page click the link "Collection Finder" to view the list of available collections. Click the "History" link to start a search in the History collection. Here you can explore individual collections or search them all. Enter your keywords in the search field and select "match all of these words" if using multiple keywords. If you don't, you will get a lot of results, some of which will not be related to what you want.

I tried a search using the keywords: pennsylvania armstrong
Some of the results included George Washington's journals ,photos
of coal towns and railroad maps.
Another search with the keywords: pennsylvania map topographical
returned a link to this item:

Grand bird's-eye view of the Centennial Exhibition grounds and the
surrounding country : showing the exact location of every building
connected with the great international exposition, drawn in crayon
from official topographic surveys.

Don't forget to go back and search the Geography collection.

I feel that this site has great potential, but a lot of items I was
interested in were not yet online. Oh well, I'll just check back later.
